South Dayton, New York

South Dayton is a village in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The population was 620 at the 2010 census.
The Village of South Dayton lies within the Town of Dayton by the southwest corner of the town and less than a mile from the county line of Chautauqua County.
History
The community was also known as "Pine Valley." The arrival of the railroad in 1875 promoted the growth of the village. The Village of South Dayton was incorporated in 1915. Possibly the most famous event to occur in South Dayton is that a revelation is reported to have been received by the Mormon prophet, Joseph Smith, Jr. in the home of Freeman Nickerson on October 12, 1833 know as Section 100 of the Doctrine and Covenants. At the time the settlement was known as Perrysburg, NY.
